Gyeonggi Province announced on the 26th that it has given final approval to the ‘2033 Gapyeong-gun Urban Regeneration Strategic Plan’ submitted by Gapyeong-gun.
The Urban Regeneration Strategic Plan is a plan to establish urban regeneration promotion strategies, such as designating urban regeneration activation areas, to revitalize old downtown areas suffering from building aging and commercial district decline. According to related laws, each city and county establishes the plan, and Gyeonggi Province approves it.
Gapyeong-gun conducted a comprehensive analysis of the local decline status and, based on this, presented a regeneration vision titled ‘Gapyeong, a Healing Resonance Culture and Leisure City where Living Spaces, Workplaces, Culture, and Residents Harmonize and Spread.’ Two areas, Cheongpyeong-myeon Yeoul Market area and Gapyeong-eup Jatgoeul Market area, were finally designated as activation areas.
With the approval of this Urban Regeneration Strategic Plan, Gapyeong-gun has laid the foundation to establish activation plans for each activation area and promote urban regeneration projects. Even in declining areas not designated as activation areas, projects can be promoted through initiatives such as Our Neighborhood Revival.
Since 2018, Gyeonggi Province has been supporting city and county governments with provincial funds and expert consulting for the urban regeneration strategies and activation plans they establish, to actively promote urban regeneration projects.
Ahn Seong-hyun, head of the Regeneration Planning Team at Gyeonggi Province, said, “Based on the approved Gapyeong-gun Urban Regeneration Strategic Plan, we expect that the urban regeneration activation plan will be established and urban regeneration projects that meet the expectations of local residents will be stably promoted,” adding, “We will continue to provide all support and capabilities so that residents can feel the effects of urban regeneration.”
