Gwangju Dong-gu (District Mayor Lim Taek) announced on the 26th that a new table tennis-only arena has been constructed at the Dong-gu Multipurpose Gymnasium to promote recreational sports and establish customized sports infrastructure.
At the completion ceremony held on the 23rd, more than 100 people attended, including District Mayor Lim Taek, members of the Dong-gu Council, representatives from the Dong-gu Table Tennis Association, and the Dong-gu Sports Council.
Although there are more than 200 table tennis club members active in Dong-gu, there was no dedicated table tennis facility, so only a limited part of the Dong-gu Multipurpose Gymnasium was being used. The conditions were poor, as members could not even receive guidance from professional coaches, let alone participate in sports activities comfortably.
To address this, a total project cost of 1.7 billion KRW was invested to construct a one-story building with a total floor area of 487.7 square meters. The facility is equipped with a table tennis arena, management office, restrooms, and showers to ensure convenience for residents.
Lim Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "With the completion of the dedicated table tennis arena in Dong-gu, we expect residents will be able to enjoy systematic lessons as well as cultural and leisure activities in a pleasant environment," adding, "We will continue to expand the base of recreational sports to promote residents' health and improve their quality of life."
