Japan Airlines Faces Domestic and International Flight Delays Due to Cyberattack

Japan Airlines (JAL) announced on the 26th that it experienced a cyber attack, causing disruptions to its passenger baggage management system and other services.


JAL stated that around 7:24 a.m. that day, network equipment connecting the company to external systems malfunctioned due to a cyber attack, resulting in delays for both domestic and international flights.

JAL is quickly working to assess the extent of the impact caused by the system failure and restore services, expressing deep apologies for the inconvenience caused to passengers and related parties.


According to Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei), Jetstar Japan and Spring Japan, low-cost carriers affiliated with Japan Airlines, reported no impact on their operations. All Nippon Airways (ANA) also confirmed that it was not affected by any cyber attack and is operating flights normally.


The Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism explained, "We are currently gathering information and are awaiting reports from Japan Airlines regarding the impact on flight operations."


Meanwhile, as of the morning session, Japan Airlines' stock price on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was trading about 1% lower compared to the previous close.
