Gwangju Shinsegae "Delivering Hope and Love"

Donation of 10 Million Won to Chorokwoosan Children's Foundation

Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Dong-hoon) celebrated the 21st anniversary of the Hope Santa Expedition, which began in 2003.

On the 24th, Gwangju Shinsegae held a Hope Santa Love Delivery Ceremony in the square in front of the department store's main entrance, the company announced on the 26th.

About 30 people participated in the event, including Kim Yi-gang, Seo-gu District Mayor, Lee Dong-hoon, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae, and Kim Eun-young, Head of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch of the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation.

Gwangju Shinsegae donated 10 million KRW to the Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch of the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation.

The donated funds will be used for heating costs for 50 households in vulnerable housing conditions in the region and for purchasing gifts for 20 low-income families. After the event, the Hope Santas, composed of Gwangju Shinsegae employees, visited local welfare facilities to deliver gifts and share warmth.

The Hope Santa Expedition is a representative social contribution activity conducted by Gwangju Shinsegae, which has supported the purchase of briquettes and other costs aimed at improving the living environment of vulnerable housing groups.

Recently, as the number of households using briquettes has decreased, since last year, heating cost support has been provided along with preparing gifts desired by the beneficiaries. To this end, Gwangju Shinsegae and the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation conducted a preliminary survey to prepare gifts such as sneakers that the recipients needed.

Gwangju Shinsegae, which started as a local corporation in 1995 to practice coexistence with the region, has consistently carried out activities such as the Gwangju Shinsegae Scholarship for nurturing local talent, the Hope Delivery Campaign supporting treatment costs for children with incurable diseases, and kimchi-making volunteer work for neighbors in need, in addition to Hope Santa.

Lee Dong-hoon, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae, said, “The Hope Santa Expedition of Gwangju Shinsegae has been able to continue for 21 years thanks to the passion of our employees and the interest of local residents,” and added, “We ask for your continued support so that the Hope Santas can keep delivering hope to our community.”
