Geumcheon-gu Installs AI Radar to Prevent Safety Accidents in Restrooms

Installation of AI Radar in 13 Restrooms on the 1st Floor of Geumcheon-gu Office
AI-Based Intelligent Radar Detects Abnormal Situations Using High Frequency
Immediate On-Site Response When Abnormal Situations Occur

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it has installed intelligent radar utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the first-floor restrooms of the district office to manage and supervise safety.

Since restrooms require privacy protection, it is difficult to install video devices such as closed-circuit television (CCTV), making it challenging to respond to dangerous situations in real time. Accordingly, the district planned to install intelligent radar to prevent safety accidents occurring in restrooms.

The intelligent radar precisely recognizes and analyzes movements through high-frequency waves, enabling rapid detection of dangerous situations even in dark environments using intelligent capture technology.

The radar detects changes in human height and recognizes dangerous situations such as when someone falls inside a restroom stall or remains there for more than 45 minutes. When such situations occur, an immediate alert is displayed on the control screen, and personnel are dispatched to respond on-site.

Starting from January next year, monitoring will be conducted by the Resident Safety Division during weekday daytime hours, and by the Geumcheon-gu Disaster and Safety Situation Room during nights and holidays. If a dangerous situation arises, it will be promptly reported to the comprehensive situation room, which will verify the scene and respond accordingly.

Once the performance of the intelligent radar is secured, the district plans to consider introducing it to public restrooms such as those in community centers in the future.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “We can now protect the safety of residents even in restrooms where privacy concerns exist,” adding, “We will continue to actively adopt new technologies and do our best to create a safe environment where residents can feel at ease.”
