Annika Sorenstam (Sweden), known as the "legend of women's golf," is beginning her third term as president of the International Golf Federation (IGF).

On the 24th (local time), IGF announced, "President Sorenstam will continue her term from January 1, 2025, through the end of December 2026." Sorenstam was first appointed as IGF president for a two-year term starting in January 2021 and is nearing the end of her second two-year term in 2023.


She is a "superstar" who achieved 72 wins on the LPGA Tour, ranking third all-time in most victories. She won 10 major championships and was inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame. Additionally, she was the inaugural No. 1 in the women's golf world rankings when they were first established in 2006.


IGF is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland. It oversees golf competitions at the Olympics, Paralympics, Youth Olympics, and organizes events such as the World Amateur Team Championships. IGF played a leading role in making golf an official sport at the 2014 Youth Olympics and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
