Gangwon-do Issues 20 Billion Won in Q1 to Boost Early-Year Consumption
Also Conducts 10,000 Won Gangwon Gift Certificate Event to Stimulate Domestic Demand
Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) announced on the 25th that the issuance scale of Gangwon gift certificates for 2025 has been finalized at 58 billion KRW, an increase of 6 billion KRW compared to this year, to revitalize the local economy. Additionally, Gangwon Province plans to issue 20 billion KRW, which is 34% of the 58 billion KRW, within March to stimulate the local economy early in the year.
Amid the domestic economic downturn, especially when local small business owners are facing difficulties, 8 billion KRW worth of Gangwon gift certificates will be issued in January as part of consumption promotion, doubling last year's 4 billion KRW. Sales will begin on Thursday, January 2nd, and individuals can purchase up to 200,000 KRW per month at a 5% discount.
Furthermore, to create a domestic demand revival boom, a prize event will be held for customers who make payments. The event will be held monthly in the first quarter, and any customer who spends more than 200,000 KRW using the mobile Gangwon gift certificate within a month will be automatically entered without a separate application. The number of winners will be 800, each receiving a 10,000 KRW mobile Gangwon gift certificate as a prize.
Han Sung-gyu, Director of Economic Policy at Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, stated, “Considering the situation where consumer sentiment could further shrink, we increased the issuance scale of Gangwon gift certificates,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that Gangwon gift certificates enhance the purchasing power of residents and provide practical benefits to local self-employed and small business owners.”
