"Can't Sell Enough"…Christmas 'Hyoja Item' That Even Opened Tightly Closed Wallets Wide

A new 'hot item' has emerged in the domestic hotel industry. It is a limited-season teddy bear.

E-Land Park Kensington Hotel Yeouido announced on the 24th that since showcasing a tree decorated with 'Kensington Signature Bear' and 'Doorman Bear' dolls and keychains in the lobby, the hotel's private brand (PB) sales increased by 20% compared to the same month last year. In particular, the Doorman Bear keychains hung on the tree sold out quickly, prompting a second restock.

Hanwha Hotels & Resorts, which releases limited-edition Christmas teddy bears every year in collaboration with the Teddy Bear Museum, also saw great success. Last month, sales of these Christmas teddy bears increased ninefold compared to the same month last year. This year, Hanwha Hotels & Resorts expanded its product lineup by introducing sets including dolls and hand cream, riding on the growing popularity each year.

Hotel Shilla also launched a winter limited edition of its own character, the 'Shilla Bear.' Jeju Shilla Hotel decorated the hotel with over 100 Shilla Bears to enhance the year-end atmosphere. They recently introduced 'Shilla Bears Whisper,' a cake shaped like the Shilla Bear, as one of four Christmas cakes. This cake, the second most expensive among the four, was reportedly more popular than the highest-priced 400,000 KRW 'The Taste of Luxury.' Although Hotel Shilla increased the number of cakes for sale beyond the initial plan, reservations were fully booked early.

An industry insider explained, "The trees and Christmas decorations created by hotels are leading to 'experience consumption' beyond mere viewing, naturally connecting to sales of PB products such as teddy bears and keychains."
