Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 25th that it will extensively renovate hazardous and inconvenient elements such as aging wooden decks, safety signs, and parking lot surfaces to ensure that users of Anyangcheon can enjoy a safe and comfortable rest, and will reopen the area with these improvements by the end of this month.

This renovation focuses on prioritizing the removal of safety-threatening factors and improving inconveniences as the demand for various leisure activities among residents in rivers and parks within the living area increases.

The 'Anyangcheon Stream Ecological Park' has been refurbished after completing the maintenance of aging facilities. A total of 2,387㎡ of wooden deck surfaces, which were deteriorated or damaged by rainwater, were replaced from synthetic wood to durable natural wood, and boundary wood was installed on the walking paths and resting decks to allow vulnerable pedestrians such as the disabled, children, and the elderly to safely use the deck paths.

Additionally, the wooden railings were lowered to harmonize with the surrounding natural scenery, and about 6,600 shrubs and herbaceous plants suitable for river vegetation, such as Miscanthus sinensis and yellow iris, were planted in two deck resting areas around the stream.

Meanwhile, to prevent safety accidents caused by encroachment on exclusive roads, high-speed bicycle riding, and unauthorized vehicle entry, and to alleviate pedestrian inconvenience, 50 'solar-powered LED safety signs' were installed throughout the entire Anyangcheon area.

The safety signs come in eight types: bicycle and pedestrian-only roads, bicycle speed limits, vehicle entry prohibition, passage prohibition during heavy rain, fall caution, prohibited activities in the river, caution in the river, and a comprehensive guide map of Anyangcheon. They operate in an eco-friendly manner by charging using solar power without a separate electricity supply and automatically lighting up at night.

In addition, the district replaced the aging floor pavement and sidewalk blocks of the Sinjeonggyo underpass parking lot, which has a public parking lot with a capacity of about 300 vehicles for Anyangcheon users. The district plans to continue improving facilities by reorganizing aging spaces within Anyangcheon and expanding convenience facilities.

District Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, "Through this renovation, we expect residents to be able to stay safely and comfortably in the waterfront space without inconvenience," and added, "We will continue to meticulously identify and manage elements that threaten residents' safety and cause inconvenience."
