Chosun University Dental Hospital (Director Lim Sunghoon) announced on the 24th that its Institutional Review Board (IRB) recently received accreditation from the Ministry of Health and Welfare and held a commemorative plaque ceremony to mark the occasion.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare's IRB accreditation is a system in which the National Bioethics Policy Institute comprehensively evaluates and certifies institutions that have established and are operating an IRB, based on the Bioethics and Safety Act, by assessing their operational foundation and infrastructure.
This accreditation process was conducted in three stages: document review, on-site evaluation, and comprehensive assessment.
The IRB satisfied all 40 detailed evaluation criteria across five categories: ▲establishment and independence of the institution ▲institutional support ▲composition of the IRB ▲operation of the IRB ▲roles and functions of the IRB. Through this, Chosun University Dental Hospital has been recognized as a medical institution with the capability to protect research subjects and comply with domestic and international ethical standards. Currently, only five dental hospitals have received IRB accreditation.
Director Lim Sunghoon stated, "I would like to thank the members of the Institutional Review Board for their dedicated efforts in achieving this accreditation," and added, "We will continue to support the independently operated IRB without interference from hospital management, prevent research that infringes on human dignity and value, and create a safe research environment that meets both domestic and international ethical standards."
