Goyang City Holds Completion Ceremony for Goyang University Student Mentor Group 'Goyang Univ'

Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 24th that it successfully held the 2024 Goyang University Student Mentor Group ‘Goyang Univ’ (hereinafter ‘Goyang Univ’) completion ceremony on the 23rd at the auditorium on the 2nd floor of Ilsan Seo-gu Youth Center.

At the event, Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City attended as a ‘Super Mentor’ to encourage the mentors’ hard work, and Choi Hoe-jae, CEO of the Goyang Youth Foundation, also joined to express congratulations and gratitude.

The Goyang University Student Mentor Group is a program started by local university students to help junior youths with career planning. The university student mentors played their roles as life seniors by providing academic mentoring and career mentoring support based on their diverse experiences, greatly contributing to the local community.

In his congratulatory speech, Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “Standing here and seeing the university student mentors, I feel that Goyang City is very fortunate to have such wonderful talents,” congratulating the mentors who have reached the completion milestone. He added, “I see the orange rose I received at the launch ceremony of the University Student Mentor Group every day in my office, and thanks to you all, my day also brightens,” emphasizing his special bond with the university student mentor group.

Choi Hoe-jae, CEO of the Goyang Youth Foundation, said, “The University Student Mentor Group is an excellent program that goes beyond introducing academic departments to providing practical help to youths and contributing to the career growth of junior youths in the local community,” adding, “Thanks to the dedication of the mentors, Goyang’s youths were able to dream of a better future. We hope you will continue to be a great strength for the local community.”

The completion ceremony consisted of two parts: Part 1 was a communication session with the Super Mentor (Goyang Mayor), and Part 2 was a report on the 2024 project results and guidance for the 2025 project. In Part 1, the university student mentor group and the Goyang Mayor freely conversed, having an honest communication time. Part 2 was arranged as a session to wrap up the mentor group’s activities and review their achievements. Over the past year, the mentor members actively engaged with Goyang youths, sharing dreams and providing practical help, congratulating each other on their completion and encouraging their efforts.

One mentor member who attended the completion ceremony said, “I felt rewarded to be able to help someone through the activities, and it was also an opportunity for my own growth,” adding, “Based on this experience, I will continue to practice sharing and consideration.”

The 2024 Goyang University Student Mentor Group will officially conclude its activities with the completion ceremony and continue recruiting new members for 2025.
