"Heartbroken and struggling"
"Han Dong-hoon has little political experience but right thinking"
"Weak power leads to unfair experiences"
Kim Sang-wook, a member of the People Power Party, expressed his feelings about the impeachment crisis and mentioned former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon.
On the 24th, Representative Kim participated in an interview with Channel A Radio's "Political Signal." He opened up by saying, "These days, I can't sleep well and food doesn't go down, so how could alcohol? That's why I haven't drunk in a long time," adding, "My heart feels devastated, exhausted, and hopeless." He continued, "I have many thoughts about how to rebuild conservatism, but there are not many means to execute it, so it is difficult," and stated, "Young lawmakers often interact with each other. Although progressive and conservative thoughts differ, we learn a lot from each other through conversations."
Kim said, "One of the biggest problems in South Korean politics is factionalism," and argued, "It has become a culture where people blindly show loyalty and raise their voices loudly without considering right or wrong." He added, "Because we think we are right and the other side is always wrong, when the Democratic Party takes power, they retaliate against us, and when we take power, the Democratic Party retaliates. This cycle repeats," expressing hope that "this opportunity will serve as a turning point to overcome factionalism."
When asked if he is in contact with former leader Han, he replied, "There is no reason not to contact him just because he left. I exchange greetings and ask about his thoughts," revealing his opinion, "From what I feel, former leader Han is a very upright person. He may lack political experience, but his thoughts and aspirations are very righteous." Furthermore, he explained, "(Han) did not secure leadership within the National Assembly, and his faction was weak, so he certainly experienced some unfair situations," adding, "Rather than thinking about the presidential election or other matters, he is very tired and hurt. I understand he is currently taking some time to organize his thoughts."
Meanwhile, Representative Kim was one of the 18 People Power Party lawmakers who joined in lifting the martial law declared on the 3rd at the National Assembly. During the first impeachment motion vote on the 7th, he left the chamber following the party's directive but later returned to participate in the vote, stating, "I opposed the impeachment motion according to the party line." Afterwards, Kim held a one-person protest in favor of the impeachment motion while wearing the jacket he wore during the martial law lifting. On the 14th, during the second impeachment motion vote, he broke party lines and voted in favor of President Yoon's impeachment.
