Guri City, Civil-Government-Military Joint 'Amazing-House' Home Repair Volunteer Activity

Transforming Housing Spaces for National Merit Elderly
Into Comfortable and Safe Environments

The city of Guri, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) announced on the 24th that on the 21st, it conducted a joint civil-military Amazing-House home repair volunteer activity for the household of a national merit senior citizen residing in Inchang-dong.

This volunteer activity was carried out in accordance with the civil-military joint ‘Amazing-House’ project agreement signed on March 16, 2012, between Guri City, the Guri Mokmin Volunteer Association (President Yoon Jae-geun), and the 73rd Infantry Division (Commander Kim Kyung-il). A total of 19 people participated, including 2 city officials, 9 members of the Mokmin Volunteer Association, 3 executives and employees of Guri Saemaeul Geumgo, and 4 soldiers from the 73rd Infantry Division.


The home repairs included replacing the insect screens in the living room and veranda, four doors including the master bedroom, and floor mats. For the safety of the senior citizen, the threshold of the master bedroom door was also removed, resulting in more meticulous work than ever before.


Yoon Jae-geun, President of the Guri Mokmin Volunteer Association, said, “I am grateful to everyone from Guri City, Guri Saemaeul Geumgo, and the soldiers of the 73rd Infantry Division who passionately participated in the home repair volunteer work despite the cold weather. We feel a great sense of fulfillment in working together to make the living space of the national merit senior citizen more comfortable and safe.”


Kim Kyung-il, Commander of the 73rd Infantry Division, stated, “As soldiers who protect the property and lives of the people, we feel even more rewarded to be able to volunteer for national merit recipients in our daily lives. We will continue to do our best with a sense of mission for the development and stability of the living conditions in the division’s jurisdiction.”


Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun said, “It has already been over 12 years since the civil-military joint Amazing-House home repair project began. I thank President Yoon Jae-geun and the members of the Mokmin Volunteer Association, the executives and employees of Guri Saemaeul Geumgo, and the soldiers of the 73rd Infantry Division for their passion. We will continue to do our best to honor national merit recipients and to enhance their dignity and pride.”
