Addressing Child Food Insecurity Care Gaps, Promoting Local Agricultural Product Consumption
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) announced on the 24th that on the 23rd, as part of its social contribution brand ‘PORTner,’ it conducted volunteer activities with children at the Hope Regional Children’s Center in Jung-gu, Busan.
BPA employees made tomato paximathia (a French home-style dish where minced meat and vegetables are stuffed inside tomatoes, topped with cheese, and baked in the oven) and yogurt using local agricultural products, tomatoes, together with the children, and participated in an educational program focused on healthy eating habits.
This volunteer activity is a project carried out in collaboration with four public institutions including BPA, Korea Southern Power, Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation, Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, and the child relief organization Save the Children to address the issues of care gaps and child hunger.
The project aims to provide lunchboxes to children from grandparent-headed and low-income families to fill care gaps caused by economic difficulties and to promote the consumption of local agricultural products, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
The lunchbox production and delivery project using local agricultural products will be conducted for five weeks starting from December 23, when the winter vacation begins.
Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, said, “This activity will be a good example of providing practical help to children and creating multifaceted value through cooperation with the local community,” adding, “We will actively take the lead in solving local issues through various social contribution activities.”
