Dong-Eui Science University Webtoon Design Department Wins Big at the 12th Korea Skills Federation Private Skills Competition

Students from the Webtoon Design Department (Department Head Cha Byung-su) at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do) won numerous awards at the ‘2024 12th Korea Skills Federation Private Skills Competition’ held on the 16th of last month.

The Webtoon Design students from Dong-Eui Institute of Technology who participated in the competition received awards in web design and computer graphics fields for the fourth consecutive year. They achieved outstanding results, including two Busan Mayor’s Awards, one Busan Regional Employment and Labor Office Director’s Award, and one Korea Industrial Human Resources Corporation Headquarters Director’s Award.

Jung Byung-chae, a sophomore in the Webtoon Design Department who won the Busan Mayor’s Award, said, “After graduating from high school, I pursued my dream of becoming a designer and enrolled in the Webtoon Design Department at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology. Thanks to excellent professors and classmates, I was able to diligently complete various courses during my school life, which I believe led to these good results.”

Cha Byung-su, head of the Webtoon Design Department, stated, “Through a project-based educational approach, we provide opportunities to experience various webtoons and designs. As a result, we work together with the department’s professors to help students effectively adapt to any design environment, including the webtoon field.”

The Webtoon Design Department at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology was established in 1974 and has produced many talents in various design fields over more than 50 years. The department aims to cultivate practical professionals suited for the Fourth Industrial Revolution by offering education in foundational drawing, color design, concept sketching, character design, webtoon 3D modeling, and more.
