Geumcheon-gu Elevates Public Education Satisfaction from 23rd to 9th with 'Geumbit School'

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced on the 20th that it held the ‘Geumbit School Project Performance Sharing Meeting’ at the Geumcheon Career and Academic Support Center (Doksan-dong) to improve the academic achievement of general high schools.

Since 2019, the district has provided a total of 2.76 billion KRW in educational expense subsidies to the ‘Geumbit School’ project. The subsidy amount has also been gradually increased from 320 million KRW in 2019 to 600 million KRW this year.

As a result of the project, the satisfaction level of Geumcheon-gu students and parents with the public education environment significantly rose from 23rd place in 2021 to 9th place in 2023. By enabling students to use academic improvement and college admission programs at school, the burden of private education expenses on parents was reduced, and trust and satisfaction in public education were enhanced.

Starting this year, the project moved away from a one-sided and uniform support method, allowing schools to autonomously manage subsidies according to on-site conditions. Each school prepared substantial programs such as entrance exams, learning, clubs, and school-specific projects, greatly increasing students’ college admission rates.

Each school operated activities such as ▲support programs for college entrance exams including intensive CSAT classes and interview guidance ▲academic improvement programs like peer tutoring and advanced or supplementary classes ▲activities that strengthen student records such as science experiments, literary field trips, and choir festivals.

Additionally, the district established a budget to strengthen teachers’ capabilities and supported teacher training expenses. Teachers reported, “Our instructional capabilities were enhanced, and cooperation and communication among teachers improved, enabling us to provide more systematic and specialized college admission support to students.”

At the sharing meeting, principals from four local general high schools?Doksan High School, Geumcheon High School, Munil High School, and Dongil Girls’ High School?attended to share the achievements of the ‘Geumbit School’ project and discuss future directions.

The attending principals said, “Students were able to strengthen their self-directed learning abilities and creative thinking skills, and teachers had opportunities to enhance their expertise in an environment that allowed creative and flexible teaching methods. Especially, programs requiring cooperation between teachers and students enriched students’ learning experiences and increased trust in public education through connections with the local community.”

Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “We will actively support Geumcheon-gu students to benefit from public education and improve their academic achievement by linking the ‘Geumbit School’ project with the specialized career and academic programs of the newly opened Geumcheon Career and Academic Support Center.”
