Damyang County in Jeollanam-do announced on the 23rd that it has received the "Grand Prize" in the 2024 Livestock Policy Comprehensive Evaluation, organized by Jeollanam-do, following last year's Excellence Award.

Jeollanam-do conducts an annual comprehensive evaluation of livestock policies for 22 cities and counties to enhance the competitiveness of Jeollanam-do livestock products, while promoting environmentally friendly livestock policies amid rising feed costs and declining livestock product prices.

The evaluation covers 28 items across four categories: livestock policy, animal welfare, livestock management, and livestock resource utilization. Damyang County received high marks for securing independent project budgets related to livestock, being selected in the national competition for the Smart Livestock Pilot Complex, and for its efforts in protecting and managing stray animals and improving livestock breeding density.

In particular, reflecting the difficulties faced by livestock farmers due to rising raw material prices and inflation, the county supported a total of 1.34 billion won for 19 projects, including 230 million won for livestock moisture control agents, 150 million won as production incentives for forage crop sowing farmers, and 110 million won for projects to improve the livestock environment.

A county official stated, "Receiving the Grand Prize this year following last year's Excellence Award was possible thanks to the active cooperation of livestock farmers as well as administrative efforts," and added, "Although local finances are challenging due to reduced grants, we will continue to actively reflect farmers' opinions next year to realize a prosperous and sustainable livestock industry."
