The on-site experiential resource circulation education allows participants to directly observe the facilities where disposed waste is sorted and processed, raising awareness of the role of the Yangpyeong Resource Circulation Center and the importance of resource circulation. As the only resource circulation site in Yangpyeong, the center provides an opportunity for trainees to explore the facility firsthand and vividly shows them the answer to the question, ‘Where does the waste I throw away go?’ In particular, the program, which combines theoretical lessons, on-site experiences, and upcycling activities, enables participants to not only intellectually understand the concept of resource circulation but also physically experience it.

This year’s education was held every Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. from March 14 to December 12. Students from the district participated on Wednesdays, while local residents and groups participated on Thursdays. A total of 1,457 people participated in the 63 sessions, including 532 students over 22 sessions and 925 residents and groups over 41 sessions.

The on-site experiential resource circulation education, which involved participants of various age groups, showed high satisfaction, with a survey result indicating a satisfaction rate of over 90%. Trainees who participated in the education shared their impressions, saying, “Seeing the facility firsthand raises awareness and responsibility regarding waste disposal,” “I learned through this education that the resource circulation center plays an important role,” and “The addition of upcycling experience activities made the education interesting and not boring.”

This education went beyond simple resource circulation education and also had a positive impact on the local economy. There were 19 instances of using local restaurants after the education, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy, and trainees expressed hope that the education would not be a one-time event but would continue to expand.

The Yangpyeong Resource Circulation Center has taken its first step as a resource circulation education facility starting with the 2024 on-site experiential resource circulation education. Next year, more advanced education and proactive outreach education to village halls and senior centers will be conducted. The education, which will officially begin in March, will accept applications in February. For more detailed information regarding participation in the education, inquiries can be made to the Cleaning Department’s Resource Recycling Team.
