The construction of the Yuseong Complex Terminal in Daejeon, which failed four times in private business operator recruitment, has finally begun after 15 years of project planning.

On the 23rd, Daejeon City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Yuseong Complex Terminal at the BRT Transfer Center within the Yuseong Metropolitan Transfer Center, attended by Daejeon Mayor Lee Jangwoo, Daejeon City Council Chairman Cho Wonhui, and others.

The Yuseong Complex Terminal will be built on a 15,000-square-meter site near Guam Station on Daejeon Metro Line 1, with a total construction cost of 44.1 billion KRW and a total floor area of 3,700 square meters, scheduled for completion by the end of next year. The currently operating Yuseong Intercity Bus Stop will continue to be used through remodeling.

The Yuseong Complex Terminal construction project, which began in 2010, was initially promoted four times through private business operator recruitment, but all attempts failed. In 2020, the city switched to a public development model in the form of residential complexes.

However, considering the long-term project delays under the 8th popularly elected administration, continued decline in passenger demand, and downturn in the housing market, the city changed the development direction in February last year to focus on building a public terminal centered on passenger facilities.

The city has also secured a 17,000-square-meter site for support facilities, such as convention centers and other complex facilities that can be linked with the terminal, as well as a 7,000-square-meter site for public office buildings in preparation for future relocation of public institutions.

Daejeon Mayor Lee Jangwoo said, "Based on public interest, practicality, and speed, we will build a safe and convenient premium terminal by December 2025," adding, "We expect that development centered on public transportation will not only improve transportation convenience but also serve as a catalyst for revitalizing the local economy."
