Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was selected as the number one Asian city where you can handle meals and sightseeing all in one walk. The city ranked first for being inconvenient to walk in was Taipei, Taiwan.
On the 23rd, Preply, a language education site and app operator, used artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze a virtual one-day walking itinerary for each city. The itinerary starts at a breakfast spot, followed by tourist attractions, a lunch spot, another tourist attraction, and a dinner spot. By analyzing this data based on time spent, number of steps, and calories burned, they selected the top 15 Asian cities that are good for walking.
In Dubai, you can stroll through the Al Fahidi Historical District, visit the Dubai Museum, and enjoy delicacies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The total walking time is 44 minutes, covering 1.9 miles (3.1 km). This means walking an average of 3,800 steps a day and burning about 190 calories overall.
Second place goes to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Walking from the Royal Palace to the National Museum while having breakfast, lunch, and dinner takes only 45 minutes a day, covering 2 miles (3.2 km). Third place is Ho Chi Minh City, the most populous city in Vietnam. Walking around the city takes slightly longer than Phnom Penh, with 46 minutes to cover 2.1 miles (3.4 km). Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, ranked fourth, with a total walking time of about 52 minutes to move from one attraction to another, covering 2.3 miles (3.7 km). Fifth place is Singapore, where walking all day takes just over an hour.
From sixth to fifteenth place are Abu Dhabi in the UAE, Chiang Mai and Bangkok in Thailand, Hanoi in Vietnam, Hong Kong, Shanghai in China, Manila in the Philippines, Mumbai in India, Colombo in Sri Lanka, and Tokyo in Japan.
Cities inconvenient for walking include Taipei in Taiwan, Tashkent in Uzbekistan, Jakarta in Indonesia, Bangalore in India, and Osaka in Japan. In the case of Taipei, depending on the sightseeing schedule, exploring the city in one day requires walking an average of 9.7 miles (15.6 km), with 224 minutes spent walking from one place to another to the point of sore legs. On average, 19,400 steps are taken, burning about 970 calories overall. Preply said, "Taipei can be a perfect destination for active people."
