The city explained that the advance payment was decided so that citizens struggling due to the heavy snowfall can resolve the damage as quickly as possible and return to their daily lives promptly.
The advance payment targets cases where the scale of damage to private facilities was confirmed as of the 13th. The city plans to distribute 3.35 billion KRW for the agriculture and livestock sectors and 2.1 billion KRW for damages related to human casualties, housing, and small business owners starting from the 26th.
Previously, the total damage from the heavy snowfall, as of the 13th, was recorded at 1,704 cases amounting to 56.659 billion KRW. Among these, 1,694 cases are eligible for disaster relief funds. On the 18th, the government designated seven cities and counties, including Yongin, and four towns and townships as special disaster zones, enabling the city to receive 50 to 80% of the recovery funds from the national government. Affected farms and others can receive indirect support and benefits in over 30 categories across administrative, financial, and medical fields, including exemptions from national tax payments, local tax reductions, and discounts on electricity, telecommunications, and city gas bills.
Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "We decided on the advance payment of disaster relief funds reflecting the voices from the heavy snowfall damage sites," adding, "We will support affected farms and others quickly and efficiently so that they can return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
