On the 21st (local time), the BBC published an article titled "From Olympic Surfers to Donald Trump: 12 Most Impressive Images of 2024." Among the 12 images, the final one featured President Yoon Seok-yeol (suspended from duty) declaring martial law on the 3rd, with Spokesperson Ahn confronting martial law troops entering the National Assembly building, grabbing a gun with her bare hands.

The BBC described this as "the image of Spokesperson Ahn captured immediately after President Yoon declared martial law," explaining that it "depicts Ahn physically struggling with heavily armed soldiers ordered to prevent lawmakers from gathering to process a bill (to lift martial law)." It added, "Ahn’s unwavering determination and the steel-like gleam on her clothing evoke the 19th-century watercolor portrait of Joan of Arc by British painter John Gilbert."

On the 5th, in an interview with BBC Korea, Spokesperson Ahn spoke about confronting the martial law troops, saying, "I didn’t think about reasoning or calculating logically; I just thought, 'We must stop this. If we fail here, there is no next time.'" Regarding grabbing the gun barrel with her bare hands, she explained, "I wasn’t consciously thinking about grabbing the gun; as I struggled to push away the arm holding me, I ended up grabbing it like that."
