Veto Exercise Deadline, January 1 Next Year

A spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office said on the 22nd, "We will listen to various opinions and make a decision for the future of the country in accordance with the Constitution and laws."

Earlier, Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, said at a press briefing held at the National Assembly that morning, "If Acting President Han does not promulgate the special investigation laws by the 24th, we will immediately hold him accountable."

This is interpreted as a statement that if Acting President Han delays the promulgation of the special investigation laws or exercises the right to request reconsideration (veto), impeachment will be pursued.

The deadline for promulgation or exercise of the veto right for the two special investigation laws passed by the National Assembly on the 12th is January 1 of next year. Therefore, it is expected that the promulgation bill or the reconsideration request bill for the two special investigation laws will be submitted and resolved at the regular Cabinet meetings scheduled for the 24th and 31st of this month.
