Forcible Installation of Park Jeonghee Statue at Dongdaegu Station Plaza... Democratic Party and Civic Groups Oppose

Despite the injunction request to halt construction filed by the Korea Rail Network Authority, it has been confirmed that a statue of Park Chung-hee was installed at Dongdaegu Station.

According to the Democratic Party of Korea Daegu City Branch on the 22nd, Daegu City completed the installation of the statue of former President Park Chung-hee at Dongdaegu Station Plaza the previous day. It is also known that Daegu City plans to forcibly hold the statue unveiling ceremony on the afternoon of the 23rd.

The Korea Rail Network Authority filed an injunction request against Daegu City at the Daegu District Court on the 13th after Daegu City proceeded with the statue installation without any consultation.

The Korea Rail Network Authority argued that the Dongdaegu Station overpass is a structure installed on state-owned land, and that ownership belongs to the Republic of Korea or the creditor, the Korea Rail Network Authority, until completion. They requested the court to impose a fine of 5 million KRW per day of violation if Daegu City forcibly proceeds with the installation of the Park Chung-hee statue. The value of the object for the injunction request was set at 50 million KRW.

Prior to the injunction request, the Korea Rail Network Authority sent official letters to Daegu City three times?on the 13th and 26th of last month, and on the 6th of this month?requesting consultation on the installation of additional facilities.

Kim Hong-seok, Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Korea Daegu City Branch, stated, "What is absurd is that Daegu City completed the statue installation on the 21st, fully aware of the injunction." He emphasized, "Mayor Hong Joon-pyo is pushing forward the installation of the Park Chung-hee statue as part of reckless administration and a presidential ambition game, which is clearly illegal."

The Democratic Party of Korea Daegu City Branch plans to hold a press conference condemning the illegal installation of the Park Chung-hee statue at 11 a.m. on the 23rd at Dongdaegu Station Plaza. The civic group 'Anti-Park Chung-hee Idolization Pan-Citizen Movement Headquarters' will hold emergency press conferences and emergency actions on the 22nd and 23rd at Dongdaegu Station Plaza and in front of the new Daegu City Hall building.
