Gwangju and the Jeonnam region are expected to remain mostly clear, with subzero morning temperatures continuing for the time being.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on the 22nd, strong winds and a sharp drop in temperature in the morning caused the perceived temperature in Gwangju to fall to -8 degrees Celsius, marking the coldest day of this winter so far.
Most areas in Gwangju and Jeonnam are forecast to be mostly clear on the 23rd under the influence of a high-pressure system near the Shandong Peninsula in China, with increasing cloud cover expected from the night.
Morning lows are expected to be -4 degrees Celsius in Naju, Damyang, Yeongam, Haenam, and Hwasun; -2 degrees in Gwangju, Gwangyang, Muan, Suncheon, and Yeonggwang; -1 degree in Wando; and 0 degrees in Mokpo and Yeosu. Daytime highs are forecast to be 10 degrees in Gwangyang and Wando; 9 degrees in Suncheon, Yeosu, and Haenam; 8 degrees in Gwangju, Naju, Mokpo, Muan, Yeonggwang, Yeongam, and Hwasun; and 7 degrees in Damyang, which is higher than yesterday's temperatures.
Waves in the West Sea are expected to reach 1.5 to 2.5 meters, and 1 to 2 meters in the South Sea. Fine dust levels in both Gwangju and Jeonnam are expected to remain at 'moderate' levels.
An official from the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration said, "As icy roads and black ice are expected on shaded roads, alleys, sloped roads, and back roads where temperatures are low, please pay special attention to traffic safety and pedestrian safety."
