Park Kyuntaek Named 'Outstanding Lawmaker' in Democratic Party's National Assembly Audit

Calls for Basic Rights of the People and Prosecution Reform

Park Kyuntaek, a member of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Gwangju Gwangsan-gap), announced on the 21st that he has received the 2024 Outstanding Lawmaker Award for National Assembly Audits from the Democratic Party of Korea.

During the first government audit of the 22nd National Assembly, Park was praised for sharply criticizing the mismanagement of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration and for raising questions urging the restoration of legal order, social justice, and the normalization of the Republic of Korea.

In particular, he drew attention for urging investigative and judicial agencies to respond swiftly and strictly to major issues such as allegations of the President and First Lady's involvement in candidate nominations and corruption at the presidential residence. He also highlighted the need for reform of the prosecution and the Board of Audit and Inspection, which have been accused of shielding the administration.

Park also received high marks for actively raising policy questions. He emphasized the need for legislation to address the increasing issue of "dating violence," the expansion of judicial research personnel to ensure prompt and thorough trials, and the necessity of increasing public defenders to guarantee citizens' right to a fair trial.

Park stated, "Being selected as an outstanding lawmaker for the government audit is thanks to the support and encouragement of the voters in Gwangju Gwangsan-gu-gap, who gave me the opportunity to work for the restoration of democratic order and the advancement of legal systems in the Republic of Korea." He added, "As a member of the impeachment team for the punishment of Yoon Suk-yeol's insurrection crimes, I will focus on swiftly normalizing the country and devote myself further to stabilizing people's livelihoods and developing Gwangsan-gu."
