With 1 to 5 cm of snow forecasted in Seoul from the early morning of the 21st, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has begun preparations for snowfall.

On the 20th at 6 p.m., Seoul City announced the activation of emergency snow removal duty (Level 1) and has deployed snow removal vehicles and equipment in advance to prepare for the snowfall.

Seoul City plans to detect signs of snowfall in advance through closed-circuit (CC) TV cameras installed along the snowfall path in the West Sea region, and will deploy 5,295 personnel and 1,116 snow removal equipment units to pre-apply de-icing agents before the snow falls.

In particular, snow removal boxes located in alleys and steep slopes have been replenished with de-icing agents and equipment so that any citizen can use them. The city has requested citizens to actively participate in clearing snow in front of their homes and stores.

Due to subzero temperatures during the early morning on the weekend, there is a high possibility that the fallen snow will freeze, so caution is needed for ice formation on major arterial roads and residential alleys. Seoul City urged drivers to maintain sufficient safety distances while driving and asked pedestrians to be especially careful to prevent slip-and-fall accidents.

Kim Seong-bo, Director of the Seoul Disaster and Safety Office, said, "We will thoroughly prepare to prevent any inconvenience to citizens caused by the snowfall," adding, "When snow falls under low temperatures, there may be icy road sections, so for safety, we ask that personal vehicle use be minimized and public transportation be actively used."
