Producer Apologizes, "110% Ticket Refund"
The musical 'Cyrano' performance on the afternoon of the 20th was canceled after the first act due to lead actor Choi Jae-rim's poor condition.
After the first act of the 'Cyrano' performance held at the CJ Towol Theater in Seoul Arts Center, Seocho-gu, Seoul at 2:30 PM on the 20th, a production staff member came on stage and said, "It was painful to watch the first act. We would like to offer a deeper apology to the audience. Please wish for Choi Jae-rim's speedy recovery," announcing the suspension of the performance. Another staff member explained the refund process, stating, "We will refund 110% of the ticket price."
Choi Jae-rim, who played the lead role of Cyrano on stage, was reportedly unable to properly use his voice throughout the first act due to his poor condition. Audience members who watched the performance said, "His voice cracked not only during high notes but also during regular lines."
Co-produced by RG Company and CJ ENM, 'Cyrano' opened on the 6th. The musical is adapted from the 19th-century French play 'Cyrano de Bergerac' by French poet and playwright Edmond Rostand, who was inspired by a real person. It tells the story of Cyrano, who led the brave Gascon troops in 17th-century France during the war with Spain. Cyrano is the best swordsman and a poet but is shy in front of the woman he loves due to his grotesque nose.
Choi Jae-rim, Jo Hyung-kyun, and Go Eun-seong are triple-cast in the lead role of Cyrano. Choi Jae-rim's next scheduled performance is on the 25th at 7 PM. He is also scheduled to appear in the musical 'Kinky Boots' at the Seongnam Arts Center Opera House on the 21st, but the production company has not issued a separate statement regarding his participation.
Meanwhile, Choi Jae-rim is currently performing in provincial shows of the musicals 'Chicago' and 'Kinky Boots' as well as on the 'Cyrano' stage, and is expected to join 'Jekyll & Hyde' starting in March next year.
