Gyeonggi Yangpyeong-gun (Governor Jeon Jin-seon) is establishing and implementing a comprehensive plan to prevent water supply pipe freezing and enhance recovery capabilities during the winter season.
The county has completed a preliminary inspection of major local water supply facilities such as water purification plants, reservoirs, pumping stations, pipelines, and valves from the 15th of last month to the 13th of this month to ensure that residents do not experience inconvenience in using tap water due to freezing damage to local water supply facilities. Vulnerable areas prone to freezing or pipe bursts were identified and repair work was completed.
Additionally, during the winter season, a control room has been organized into three teams: the general team, the situation handling team, and the emergency recovery team, to prevent freezing accidents and enable rapid recovery. This structure allows for flexible and proactive responses to freezing incidents. Preventive measures against freezing are continuously being promoted, including distributing freezing prevention notices using water meter readers, broadcasting announcements in apartment complexes, spreading freezing prevention information via social networking services (SNS), promoting awareness through village chiefs at freezing-prone locations, and providing freezing prevention packs.
An official from the Waterworks Office stated, “We ask residents to use old clothes or the freezing prevention packs provided by the Waterworks Office to prevent freezing in water meter boxes.” They added, “To minimize damage to residents caused by freezing during the winter, we will analyze the results of this winter’s freezing prevention plan and actively reflect them in next year’s winter freezing plan.”
