"A New Beginning, Not the End"... Seniors Filled with Vitality
Gwangju Hyoryeong Senior Welfare Town held a modest but meaningful graduation ceremony for its literacy school on the 20th.
Since 2018, the literacy school, which has provided official academic certification, has become a popular program that brings new vitality to seniors who did not have the opportunity to graduate from elementary school during difficult times.
The oldest graduate, Mr. Park (89), expressed his joy, saying, "I was able to go on a picnic and learn to read and write, things I couldn't enjoy as a child. This is the brightest moment of my life."
Im (66), the representative of the graduates, shared, "As I approached graduation after finally getting a chance to learn, I thought of my mother. 'I'm sorry, Mom.' I used to resent you a lot, but now I want to hug you and tell you that I studied and graduated from Hyoryeong Literacy School."
Jung Kyungnam, head of Hyoryeong Town, emphasized, "Thanks to the passion and effort of our seniors, the literacy education program has brought about great changes in their lives, far beyond just simple classes. The passion for learning is only just beginning, and it will continue."
