Outstanding Institution in the Traditional Temple Category
Jangseong County in Jeollanam-do has been selected as an 'Outstanding Institution' in the traditional mountain temple category of this year's Excellent Projects for Utilizing National Heritage in Our Region.
According to Jangseong County on the 20th, the 'Our Region National Heritage Utilization Project' is an initiative promoted annually by the National Heritage Administration for local governments, aiming to rediscover the value and significance of dormant national heritage throughout the region and to develop new cultural content based on this. The project consists of a total of five categories.
In the traditional mountain temple utilization category, the county's 'Riding the White Crane, Roaming Baekyang' project at Baekyangsa Temple in Jangseong was honored with an award.
'Riding the White Crane, Roaming Baekyang' showcased a variety of events throughout the year, including 'Mountain Temple Humanities' based on the outstanding cultural resources of the thousand-year-old Baekyangsa Temple, the experiential program 'The People Who Built the Main Hall' centered on the Daeungjeon Hall, and 'Yangyi's Exploration Program' which deals with the legend of the white sheep of Baekyangsa.

Although it was a newly launched project that took its first steps last year, it was selected as an exemplary case of reinterpreting the value of local resources and thus received the National Heritage Administration Director's Award this year.
Kim Hanjong, the county governor, said, "We will continue to develop this as a representative cultural event where people can experience the rich historical and cultural resources of Jangseong."
