The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kang Eun-hee) announced on the 20th that three students?Na Gyu-seung from Daegu Science High School, Byeon Seong-bin from Gyeongbuk High School, and Jeon Hyun-soo from Daegu Yea-ram School?have been honored with the '2024 Korea Talent Award.'
The 'Korea Talent Award' is given to outstanding young talents aged between 15 and 34 in South Korea who will lead various fields in future society. It is jointly selected by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Student Aid Foundation.
This year, the three high school awardees from Daegu are students who have demonstrated both exceptional achievements and character in their respective fields.
Na Gyu-seung, a third-year student at Daegu Science High School, is a talent with a strong passion for pure chemistry and relentless effort. He represented South Korea at the International Chemistry Olympiad and won a silver medal, received an excellence award at the National Science Exhibition, and was recognized for his skills in various competitions. He also possesses character qualities that practice social consideration through driving co-growth and volunteer activities.
Byeon Seong-bin, a third-year student at Gyeongbuk High School, is a talent with outstanding software development capabilities. He has distinguished himself in several domestic and international competitions, including winning a silver prize at the Korea Code Fair SW Contest and being selected for the Korean delegation at the International Science and Technology Competition. Dreaming of becoming a software developer and social entrepreneur, he has a deep interest in developing technologies that improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and the elderly.
Jeon Hyun-soo, a third-year student at Daegu Yea-ram School, has autism spectrum disorder but possesses exceptional musical talent. He has won multiple awards at the National Disabled Students Music Competition and has been striving to achieve his dream of becoming a 'violist.' Through active artistic activities such as music performances and art creation, he has greatly contributed to improving awareness of disabilities and serves as a role model for other students with disabilities through exemplary school life.
Kang Eun-hee, Superintendent of Daegu Education, said, “I congratulate the three students who received the Korea Talent Award and applaud their passion and efforts toward their dreams,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that our students can freely develop their dreams and capabilities and grow into future talents of Korea.”
