Mokpo Coast Guard Awards Outstanding Civilian Members for Water Rescue Activities

Kim Daesung of Jindo Civilian Maritime Rescue Team Selected

Kim Daeseong (50), a member of the Mokpo Maritime Police Station's (Chief: Kwon Oseong) civilian maritime rescue team, has been selected as an Outstanding Civilian Member at the '2024 Sea Hero Award & Outstanding Civilian Member' ceremony, co-hosted by the Korea Coast Guard and the Korea Maritime Foundation.


According to the Coast Guard on the 20th, one outstanding civilian member is selected from each maritime police station nationwide, with a total of 20 individuals chosen across the country, based on their active participation in lifesaving and rescue operations.

As the head of the civilian maritime rescue team in Jindo-gun, Kim has contributed to establishing a lifesaving system by providing active support during maritime accidents and emergencies. Over the past year, he has participated in 10 missions, including searching for drowning victims and supporting on-site safety management, thereby helping to protect public safety.


In addition, Kim has strengthened the capabilities of the civilian maritime rescue team and worked to prevent maritime accidents through active involvement in joint underwater search training, patrols of coastal activity sites and safety facilities, participation in training sessions and meetings, and more. Beginning his career in 2008 with the Korea Maritime Rescue Unit in Yeosu, he later served in the Naju Rescue Team of the Korea Maritime Rescue Association in 2013, and as a rescue skills instructor at the Korea Coast Guard Education Center in 2016, making him a veteran in the field of rescue operations.


Kim stated, "As a member of the civilian maritime rescue team, I will continue to help create a safer sea with the mindset of protecting the lives and property of the people."
