Into Everyday Life! After-School Taekwondo Class
Kim Dong-geun, Mayor of Uijeongbu, visited ‘Yongin University No.1 Taekwondo Dojang’ (18 Buyong-ro 95beon-gil) on the 19th as part of the ‘Into the Lives of the People’ program to experience Taekwondo classes, a representative after-school hobby activity for children.

The Taekwondo dojang also serves as a ‘comprehensive childcare facility’ providing inclusive care services for children until they enter middle school, receiving great support from parents.
In particular, a parent at Yongin University No.1 Taekwondo Dojang received the ‘Multi-child Excellence Award’ last November from the Gyeonggi-do Taekwondo Association (GTA), given to parents who bring many children to the dojang.
On this day, Mayor Kim Dong-geun took Taekwondo classes together amidst the children’s vigorous kihap, and discussed with the head instructor the role of the dojang in local childcare services.
Head Instructor Lim Seong-hyeok stated, “While the role of the dojang extends beyond physical education to comprehensive childcare for children, in response to demographic changes such as low birth rates and aging population, it seems necessary to explore not only childcare but also youth athlete development and training-centered programs.”
Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “It was a meaningful time communicating while experiencing Taekwondo classes with the children. It allowed me to reconsider the role of local Taekwondo dojangs and the reality of childcare. I will continue to do my best to make the city a good place to raise children.”
