During Proposal Video Shoot, Phone Suddenly Stolen
Couple Quickly Runs to Retrieve Phone
A video capturing a thief caught stealing a cellphone set up to record the moment a couple traveling from the UK was proposing has been captured. On the 18th (local time), the British Daily Mail reported on a theft incident that occurred in front of the Arc de Triomf in Barcelona, Spain. In the video, a man sets up his cellphone nearby to record the moment he proposes to his girlfriend in front of the Arc de Triomf. The man leads the woman to a spot well captured by the camera, kneels down, and proposes with a ring.

The woman, upon seeing the ring, covers her face and embraces the man in response to his proposal. A passerby sitting behind them also witnesses the scene, smiling as they watch. However, while they are hugging, the screen suddenly shakes, and the video shows someone holding the cellphone. The media reported that the thief, wearing a black coat, took advantage of the couple’s distraction to attempt the theft. But the woman noticed the thief taking the phone and shouted, and the man quickly chased after the thief and retrieved the cellphone.

After recovering the cellphone, the couple did not report the incident to the police. In an interview with the media, they said, "This incident ruined the proposal moment of our lives. But we are relieved to have gotten the phone back and to have found the video from that time." Netizens who saw the video responded with comments such as, "Barcelona is a place where pickpocketing crimes are frequent. Always be cautious of suspicious individuals," and "Cellphone theft is a minor but common crime, but it should always be reported."
Meanwhile, as the number of tourists traveling to Europe increases significantly, it has been found that extra caution is needed against theft such as pickpocketing when visiting some major cities. According to a survey conducted earlier this year by the travel insurance company Quotzon, 87% of travelers feel the need to be cautious to prevent theft and robbery during their trips.
Especially when visiting major European cities, tourists often find it difficult to maintain vigilance as they enjoy their travels, which allows pickpockets to thrive. As of April, looking at the countries and tourist attractions with the highest number of pickpocketing incidents per one million visitors, Italy ranked first with 478 cases, with the Trevi Fountain being the most severe spot. France ranked second with 251 cases, centered around the Eiffel Tower, and Spain ranked third, with La Rambla street in downtown Barcelona being the hotspot. Other locations included Germany’s Brandenburg Gate, the Netherlands’ Red Light District, Portugal’s Alfama, Turkey’s Sultanahmet District, Greece’s Acropolis Museum, Poland’s Krakow Rynek Glowny Central Square (18 cases), and Ireland’s Guinness Storehouse.
