This basketball festival will be an opportunity for 150 families, consisting of elementary school students in grades 3 to 6 and their parents, to create warm memories. Interest was high, with applications filling up on a first-come, first-served basis within a single day.

The Provincial Office of Education is combining local educational capabilities to fill gaps that are difficult to cover in schools and is expanding physical activities that students desire. It is actively cooperating with sports organizations by discipline, focusing on students’ healthy growth and character education.

The ‘W-Festival Basketball Festival’ is a result of cooperation between the Provincial Office of Education and the Korean Women’s Basketball League, providing an opportunity to expand the base from ‘watching basketball’ to ‘playing basketball.’ Recreational games, family basketball competitions, and photo sessions for the whole family will also be held.

Over the past six years, the Korean Women’s Basketball League has provided retired basketball players as instructors free of charge for the ‘Elementary Sports Expert Connection Program’ and has also participated as instructors in ‘Regional Linked Elementary Sports Clubs.’ They have supported students in becoming familiar with basketball through physical education classes at over 600 elementary schools in 31 regions.

A parent participating in the event said, “My child became interested after receiving basketball lessons from an expert at school and decided to participate. I have high expectations because I think our family can create good memories watching my child enjoy playing basketball.”

Kim Dong-kwon, Director of the Physical Education and Health Division at the Provincial Office of Education, emphasized, “The ‘Together Program’ with families has always received enthusiastic responses on site. We will expand customized physical activities to foster warm character among all educational families, including family, friends, and teachers.”
