Pocheon City Successfully Concludes Hantangang World Geopark Center Special Exhibition and Academic Conference

Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) announced on the 19th that the opening ceremony of the special exhibition and an academic conference were successfully held on the 18th at the Hantangang Global Geopark Center.

This exhibition deals with the stories of Gyodong Village and Singyodong Village in Jung-ri, Gwanin-myeon, which were relocated due to the construction of the Hantangang Flood Control Dam. In addition, an academic conference was held on the theme of "Changes, Documentation, and Revitalization Plans of the Local Community" in connection with this.


The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including Baek Young-hyun, Mayor of Pocheon; Im Jong-hoon, Chairman of the Pocheon City Council; Kim Seong-nam, Member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly; Kim Jae-jin, Superintendent of Pocheon Office of Education; Lee Young-mok, Head of the Yeoncheon-Pocheon Branch of the Korea Water Resources Corporation; as well as residents from areas around the Hantangang such as Gwanin-myeon, Yeongbuk-myeon, and Changsu-myeon.


At the academic conference, four presentations on local research and revitalization plans were followed by a comprehensive discussion. Presenters included Choi Soon-ja, Dean of Gongmyeongjae Hakdang; Song Gi-yeok, CEO of Geureulnatneunjip; Lee Su-in, Representative of Gyodong Jangdokdae Village; and Kim Kyung-mi, Director of the Rural Development Administration. The comprehensive discussion was chaired by Yeom Kyung-hwa, Section Chief of the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History.


Additionally, Kim Young-gyu, Director of the Cheorwon History and Culture Research Institute, and Ahn Young-mi, former Section Chief of the Yeoncheon Agricultural Technology Center, participated as panelists, engaging in in-depth discussions.


The conference discussed the importance of local community records, research cases of the Hantangang and other regions, the case of Gyodong Jangdokdae Village, healing agriculture, and various plans for regional revitalization.


A Pocheon City official stated, "We hope this exhibition and academic conference will serve as an opportunity to promote interest and revitalization in the local community," adding, "We will continue to strive for the sustainable development of the Hantangang and the local community."


Mayor Baek Young-hyun of Pocheon said, "This exhibition is an important occasion to remember and preserve the disappearing local villages," and added, "We will make further efforts for the development of the Hantangang and the local community."
