Expected Effects Including Improvement and Revitalization of Satisfaction with English Public Education
A festival where elementary and middle school students in the Busan area can showcase their English speaking skills learned throughout the year at school will be held.
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 19th that it will hold the ‘2024 Busan Speaking English 1.1.1. Festival’ at 12 noon on the 21st at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 2, targeting about 1,000 participants including elementary and middle school students, teachers, and parents.
This festival, held for the second time this year, aims to enhance students' English communication skills through student-participatory speaking programs and to create a boom of English speaking in schools and local communities.
Busan Office of Education will operate the festival with experience booths, recreation, quiz contests, and the finals of the English competition.
From 12 noon, various experience and commemorative booths such as English speaking and cultural experiences linked to ‘Busan Speaking English 1.1.1.’ and a Christmas market will be operated.
Participants will gain experience speaking English with native instructors through English speaking experience booths using culture as a medium, such as ‘Harry Potter Studio.’ There are also ‘My Hobbies’ booths for experiencing music and physical education, and ‘Cafe Busan’ for experiencing Busan culture.
In addition, diverse commemorative booths such as the exhibition hall of excellent schools from Busan Speaking English 1.1.1., photo zones, and the Christmas market are prepared to foster an English speaking atmosphere.
Following recreation and quiz contests, the main event, the ‘English Competition Finals,’ will be held from 2:30 pm.
Last month, the Busan Office of Education held the ‘UCC, Logo Song, and 1-minute Speaking Together Preliminary’ with 60 teams from elementary and middle schools participating. In the finals on this day, a total of 17 teams?7 UCC teams, 5 logo song teams, and 5 1-minute speaking challenge teams who passed the preliminaries?will take the stage to showcase their honed skills.
Hwang Seo-woon, Director of Secondary Education at the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “This festival will greatly help not only improve students’ English communication skills but also enhance satisfaction and activation of English public education. The Office of Education will spare no effort to provide students with various opportunities to improve their English communication skills, including this festival, so they can grow into global talents.”
