Megabox Live Broadcast of Binhil New Year's Concert on New Year's Day
On the 4th, Screening of Berlin Phil 'Gala from Berlin'
Megabox will present consecutive concerts by two of the world's finest orchestras, the Vienna Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic, to celebrate the New Year.
First, on New Year's Day at 7 PM, Megabox will broadcast live the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert at 39 locations nationwide.
The Vienna Philharmonic has held its New Year's Concert every year since 1941 on New Year's Day at the Musikverein's Golden Hall in Vienna, Austria. The concert features works mainly by composers from Vienna or those who were active there, including the Strauss family, and concludes energetically with waltzes and polkas, representative dance pieces of Vienna. In 2013, Megabox became the first in the world to broadcast the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert live in theaters, creating a great sensation among classical music fans in Korea.
The 2025 Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert will be dedicated to celebrating the 200th anniversary of Johann Strauss II's birth. The program includes waltzes and polkas by Strauss II, as well as the overture to the operetta "The Gypsy Baron." The concert will open with "Freimarsch" (Liberty March) by his father, Johann Strauss I.
This year's New Year's Concert will be conducted by Riccardo Muti, a leading conductor representing Italy.
Following this, on January 4th at 7 PM, Megabox will exclusively screen the Berlin Philharmonic's final 2024 performance, "Gala from Berlin," at 26 locations nationwide.
"Gala from Berlin" is the Berlin Philharmonic's season finale held at the Berlin Philharmonie Hall. It began in 1977 with a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 "Choral." This year's "Gala from Berlin" will take place over three days starting on the 29th local time, featuring Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov. Trifonov will perform Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2 as a soloist.
Trifonov first collaborated with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2016 and served as the orchestra's artist-in-residence during the 2018?2019 season, building a special relationship. He placed third in the 2010 Chopin Competition and won both the Tchaikovsky Competition and the Arthur Rubinstein Competition the following year.
Following the collaboration with Trifonov, the Berlin Philharmonic will perform in the second half Richard Wagner's Prelude to Act 1 of the opera "Die Meistersinger von N?rnberg," the Waltz from Act 3 of Richard Strauss's opera "Der Rosenkavalier," and the "Dance of the Seven Veils" from Strauss's opera "Salome."
The conductor will be Kirill Petrenko, the chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic. Petrenko took office in 2019 and will conduct his fifth "Gala from Berlin" this year.
