Sharp Questions and Alternative Proposals Draw Attention
Assemblyman Yang Bumnam.
Yang Bunam, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Gwangju Seo-gu Eul), was selected as an 'Outstanding Committee Member' within the party's Public Administration and Security Committee during the 2024 National Assembly audit.
During this year's audit, Yang conducted thorough research and posed sharp questions, uncovering issues in national affairs, monitoring policies, and presenting alternatives.
In the audit of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Yang revealed that Kim Taeyoung, CEO of the interior design company '21gram'?which was responsible for renovations at the presidential residence?had collaborated with First Lady Kim Keonhee on exhibition design for Covana Contents since 2012. By bringing this to light, Yang highlighted the lack of transparency and suspicions of preferential treatment in the contract process for the presidential residence, informing the public of the seriousness of these issues.
During the audit of the National Police Agency, Yang emphasized the decline in police investigative capabilities following the adjustment of investigative authority between prosecutors and police, as well as the need to strengthen oversight in the issuance of search and seizure warrants. He called for enhanced trust and neutrality within the police organization.
In the audit of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Yang pointed out that the Hangang River Bus project is not a practical means of transportation, warning that if the service operates at a significantly lower speed of 15 knots instead of the intended 20 knots, it could become another sightseeing cruise rather than a viable transit option.
In the audit of the National Fire Agency, Yang addressed the 'emergency room roundabout' issue caused by the medical crisis following the government's announcement of plans to increase the number of doctors. He criticized the collapse of the emergency medical system and the agency's attempts to silence firefighters, and proposed measures for improvement.
Yang stated, "I am pleased that my efforts to represent the voices of the people have been recognized," and added, "I will continue to view issues from the public's perspective and do my best to present proper solutions."
