Report on Saemaeul Undong Achievements, Awards for Groups and Individuals

On the 18th, the Pohang City Saemaul Association held the '2024 Pohang City Saemaul Leaders Conference' at the City Hall Daejam Hall, attended by over 500 Saemaul leaders from Pohang City.

The event, attended by Mayor Lee Kang-deok, City Council Chairman Kim Il-man, and other city and provincial council members, was organized to encourage the dedication and service of leaders who have contributed to the development of the Saemaul Movement and to once again reflect on the Saemaul spirit.

Under the slogan "Saemaul Movement Again, Together with the World," the event reviewed the achievements of the Pohang City Saemaul Movement over the past year and proceeded with awarding those who contributed to the development of the local Saemaul movement.

At the awards ceremony, awards were presented to nine outstanding organizations, including the Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation (2 recipients), Governor’s Award (7 recipients), Central Association President’s Award (9 recipients), Meritorious Service Commendations (44 recipients), Pohang City Saemaul Grand Prize (2 recipients), Special Awards (3 recipients), and Branch Awards (5 recipients).

In the comprehensive evaluation of outstanding organizations, Heunghae-eup received the grand prize. Additionally, the Pohang City Saemaul Association Grand Prize, awarded to those who greatly contributed to the development of the Saemaul Movement throughout the year, was given to Chairman Park Dong-young of Janggi-myeon and Chairman Ahn Hae-kyung of Daesong-myeon.

Lee Sang-hae, Chairman of the Pohang City Saemaul Association, said, “I am grateful for the hard work of the Saemaul leaders who dedicated themselves to the community throughout the year, and I am pleased that this event provides an opportunity to see the fruits of their efforts. Next year, we will take the lead in creating a Pohang City that opens the future and a Saemaul that shares the future through various activities and passion.”

Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “I deeply thank the Saemaul leaders who have steadily promoted many projects not only in Pohang but also in a wider region. I look forward to many activities from the Saemaul Association next year to make the local community warmer.”
