Gangnam-gu Supports 2,963 Vulnerable Households Through 'Emergency Welfare Project'

Execution of 2.7 Billion Won Budget and Securing Additional Funds

Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) announced on the 18th that it has steadily executed a total budget of 2,737.86 million KRW for the emergency welfare project, supporting 2,963 households in crisis.

The emergency welfare support project assists households that suddenly face difficulties in livelihood due to unemployment, illness, etc., and is operated with a budget matched by the national government (50%), the city (25%), and the district (25%). This year, Gangnam-gu initially allocated a budget of 2,667 million KRW for emergency welfare, but to prepare for the expansion of eligible recipients and budget exhaustion, it proactively secured an additional subsidy of 70.86 million KRW to address budget shortages.

As of the 16th, the district has executed 2,702.63 million KRW for emergency support items such as living expenses, medical expenses, and housing costs, achieving an execution rate of 98.7%, and plans to support an additional 35.23 million KRW to households in crisis by the end of December.

In addition, the district actively utilized the Seoul-type emergency welfare budget to support households in crisis. The original budget for the Seoul-type emergency welfare support project was 690 million KRW, but through efforts to secure additional project funds, 172.52 million KRW was secured, and so far, a total of 858.94 million KRW has been provided to 989 households.

Furthermore, to prepare for the exhaustion of the emergency welfare budget, the district minimizes blind spots by linking with private sponsorships. Utilizing private resources such as the Community Chest of Korea and Warm Winter Fund donations, it helps households in crisis and resolves welfare gaps through community case management projects. The district plans to continue operating the emergency welfare project without interruption next year by reflecting the matched national and city budgets.

Meanwhile, Gangnam-gu is actively identifying households in crisis by utilizing resident communication networks such as the ‘Welfare Counseling Center’ and ‘Gangnam Good Neighbor.’ In particular, it is striving to eliminate welfare blind spots by expanding the ‘Household in Crisis Reporting Reward System.’

District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong stated, “We are doing our best to secure budgets and provide prompt support so that assistance for households in crisis is not interrupted,” and added, “We will continue to strengthen public-private cooperation and establish a meticulous support system to create a Gangnam-gu where all residents can live with peace of mind.”
