Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) is promoting an urban park environment improvement project in the Ilsan area to create safer and more pleasant parks. This year, they created a waterfront park by utilizing a detention basin and expanded barefoot walking environments by creating natural dirt paths. They have also made various efforts such as replacing old facilities in children's parks and renovating sports parks.
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City said, “Goyang City has 277 urban parks, including Ilsan Lake Park, serving as healing resting places throughout the city,” and added, “We will continuously maintain and improve the parks to ensure that citizens have no inconvenience in enjoying rest and leisure.”
In October, Goyang City created deck walkways at Modang Park in Jungsan-dong and Hansan Park detention basin in Deogi-dong. The Modang Park detention basin was previously inaccessible, but through the small park environment improvement project, it has been reborn as a waterfront park where people can walk around while maintaining its detention basin function.
Also, Hansan Park, created in 2006 as part of the Deogi Urban Development Zone designation, had its old deck walkway removed.
Meanwhile, to promote citizens' health and wholesome leisure activities, barefoot walking paths were created within parks. The following barefoot walking paths were completed in October: ▲ Angok Wetland and Sogaeul Park health dirt path in Jungsan-dong (1,800m) ▲ Seongjeo Park health dirt path in Daehwa-dong (800m) ▲ Hanmoe Park barefoot walking path in Ilsan-dong (120m) ▲ Tanhyeon Park barefoot walking path in Tanhyeon-dong (200m).
Facilities such as foot washing stations and shoe racks were also installed along the barefoot walking paths to enhance user convenience. Especially in Tanhyeon Park, a unique facility called the Ochre Experience Zone was installed, allowing visitors to experience walking barefoot on ochre balls and use the ochre foot bath.
Urban parks in the Ilsan area have been in place for about 30 years since the development of Ilsan New Town, so all facilities in children's parks are being sequentially renovated.
This year's children's park environment improvement projects targeted ▲ Dakbat Children's Park in Jeongbalsan-dong ▲ Haneulbyeolmuri Children's Park in Jungsan-dong ▲ Sutgogae Hyangnamu Children's Park in Tanhyeon-dong, all of which were completed by the 5th of last month. Next year, facility maintenance projects such as the environment improvement of Gani Children's Park in Baekseok-dong and the replacement of pergolas at Hyeonjung Children's Park in Tanhyeon-dong are planned.
Meanwhile, in June, the city significantly improved the park golf course facilities at Jungsan Sports Park. They also carried out overall facility improvement works, including tree pruning and replacement of old fences, giving the park a fresh look.
Additionally, the old indoor tiles, windows, toilets, and other interior and exterior facilities of Hanmoe Park's restroom were renovated to create a barrier-free (BF) environment suitable for all users. The restroom at Tanhyeon Park is also scheduled to complete remodeling work within this year to provide a pleasant park restroom.
An official from the Ilsan Park Management Division of Goyang Special City stated, “This year, we also carried out various park maintenance projects for 132 urban parks in the Ilsan area, including green space management, pest control, and tree pruning,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to provide better park services in the future.”
