Gwanak-gu, Gwanaksan Area Hiking Trail Maintenance

Maintenance of Gwanaksan Hiking Trails to Prevent Forest Disasters and Create a Safe Forest Environment... 3 Sites, Completion Targeted for December
Old Rest Areas Renovated and Reborn as Community Relaxation Spaces

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is making every effort to maintain the aging hiking trails around Gwanaksan Mountain to ensure a safe and pleasant hiking experience for visitors.

The target areas are three locations: ▲Samsung Mountain Sacred Site area (San 57-14, Sillim-dong) ▲Near Namgang Children's Park (1678-12, Sillim-dong) ▲Gwaneumsa Dulle-gil Trail (San 57-4, Namhyeon-dong, etc.). The district is currently carrying out maintenance with the goal of completion by December.

The ‘Gwaneumsa Dulle-gil Trail Maintenance Project’ and the ‘Hiking Trail Maintenance near Namgang Children's Park’ involve repairing aging wooden fences and wooden stairs, aiming to prevent safety accidents for visitors and create a pleasant hiking environment by December.

In particular, the ‘Samsung Mountain Sacred Site Hiking Trail’ is a steep section connecting the Samsung Mountain Youth Training Center to the Samsung Mountain Sacred Site. With the consent of the landowner, the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul, it was transformed on the 13th into a hiking trail combining safety and comfort.

The district first demolished and rebuilt the aging rest facilities installed at the existing entrance, planting eight species of small trees such as hydrangeas and eight species of herbaceous plants such as fan iris around the area to create a diverse landscape.

Additionally, wooden stairs and cross drainage were installed on the steep slopes where walking was difficult due to erosion during rainfall, stream facilities with safety concerns were supplemented, and deck stairs were installed.

The district expects that this maintenance will greatly enhance convenience for residents, as the section had been causing inconvenience due to steep slopes posing slip risks, soil loss caused by erosion and exposed bedrock during rainfall.

Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “Gwanaksan Mountain is a famous mountain in Korea loved not only by 10 million Seoul citizens but also by the entire nation, and a unique natural resource of Gwanak-gu. We will continue to do our best to maintain the hiking trails so that residents can hike safely and comfortably.”
