The award ceremony was fully sponsored by Indang Medical Foundation (Chairman Jung Heung-tae) and Eunseong Medical Foundation (Chairman Koo Ja-sung), supporting local medical research and development and encouraging research motivation.

The ‘Busan National University Medical Research Institute Researcher of the Year Award’ academic awards were given to a total of four recipients: △ Indang Medical Award - Professor Heo Jeong (Department of Internal Medicine, Busan National University Hospital) △ Eunseong Medical Award - Professor Kim Yoon-hak (Department of Anatomy) △ Indang Young Researcher Award - Professor Yeo Hye-joo (Department of Internal Medicine, Yangsan Busan National University Hospital) △ Eunseong Young Researcher Award - Professor Lee Dong-jun (Department of Convergence Medicine).

Professor Heo Jeong presented research results showing that continuous treatment with the antisense-oligonucleotide (ASO) bepirovirsen and pegylated interferon-alpha-2a (Peg-IFN) in chronic hepatitis B patients reduces relapse rates after treatment and enables functional cure compared to bepirovirsen monotherapy.

Professor Kim Yoon-hak contributed to the advancement of biomedical engineering and tissue engineering by developing an innovative nanofiber matrix that promotes skeletal muscle tissue regeneration using Ti3C2Tx MXene nanoparticles.

Professor Yeo Hye-joo analyzed the clinical outcomes of the obesity paradox and sepsis in Asian patient groups, revealing the important finding that obesity can improve survival rates and functional recovery in sepsis patients.

Professor Lee Dong-jun elucidated the mechanism by which the novel endogenous endoplasmic reticulum membrane protein SURF4 regulates cancer cell apoptosis in myeloid leukemia, demonstrating a new therapeutic approach for acute myeloid leukemia. This research made a significant contribution by presenting a promising target for blood cancer treatment.
