10% Additional Payment for Damage Restoration Costs Including Demolition Fees
The government has decided to swiftly support the recovery of flower cultivation farms damaged by an unprecedented heavy snowfall last month, the first in 117 years since weather observations began. For the affected farms, disaster insurance payments will be advanced even before the final insurance amount is confirmed, and an additional 10% of the recovery costs, including demolition expenses, will be provided.
On the 17th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that it has prepared such recovery measures for the flower sector based on on-site inspections.
First, disaster insurance payments will be advanced to affected farms even before the final insurance amount is confirmed. The first damage assessment for farms enrolled in agricultural disaster insurance is nearing completion, so to enable prompt recovery, the government plans to advance 50% of the estimated insurance payment upon application by the affected farms. Additionally, areas meeting the criteria for special disaster zones will be declared as such to expedite recovery support.
Along with this, to facilitate rapid restoration of damaged facilities, an additional 10% of the recovery costs will be paid, including demolition expenses, based on the natural disaster recovery cost calculation standards. Heavy equipment such as excavators and cargo trucks necessary for facility demolition are being provided to affected farms through the NongHyup (National Agricultural Cooperative Federation) and other channels.
Measures to prevent disasters caused by abnormal weather will also be implemented. To prepare for natural disasters such as heavy snowfall due to abnormal climate, internal disaster design standards will be strengthened, and safety will be enhanced by mandating agricultural disaster insurance enrollment when government support is provided.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will promote swift and active recovery support for flower sector farms affected by this heavy snowfall through collaboration among the government, local governments, NongHyup, and related organizations. At the same time, disaster prevention measures will be steadily implemented in cooperation with relevant agencies.
