According to reports from Chinese media including Jeongdan Newspaper on the 17th, Jin Hui (71) won the 70s category in the 100m race at the recently held 2024 China National Athletics Masters with a record of 13.97 seconds.

Jin is the first person in this category to record under 14 seconds. He also won gold medals in five events at this competition, including the 200m and 400m relays, 1600m relay, and long jump.

Jin was born in 1953 in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and worked at a steel factory before retiring and moving to Qingdao.

In an interview with Chinese media, he revealed that being frequently bullied by friends during his childhood due to his short stature was the reason he started exercising. To compete with the bullies, he learned sports and developed an interest in martial arts and wrestling.

He improved his running skills while playing on a senior soccer team. He said he repeatedly underwent additional training to make up for his shortcomings, stating, "When others ran 5000m, I would quietly run 7000m."

Jin said his goal for next year is to improve his record by 0.12 seconds to 13.85 seconds.

Following the news of his awards, Jin became a celebrity on the internet and social networking services (SNS). Chinese netizens even gave him the nickname "Hardcore Ajusshi."
