Mapo-gu Actively Promotes Emergency Welfare Support for Households in Crisis Due to Unemployment and Illness

Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Gang-su) has been steadily promoting an emergency welfare support project to assist households facing sudden crises such as unemployment or illness that cause difficulties in livelihood, and announced plans to begin disbursing emergency welfare support funds from January next year.

On the afternoon of the 17th, the district explained that the emergency welfare project aims to resolve crisis situations and stabilize the lives of households experiencing livelihood difficulties due to sudden crises such as unemployment or illness by providing prompt support for living and medical expenses. The emergency welfare budget is currently shared by the national government (Ministry of Health and Welfare) (50%), the city (25%), and the district (25%), with the district’s budget scale determined according to national funding.

Additionally, the 2024 Mapo-gu emergency welfare support project budget totals 1,715,604,000 KRW, and as of December 16, 2024, 1,712,304,000 KRW has been steadily disbursed for living and medical expenses without interruption (disbursement rate 99.8%).

Alongside this, Mapo-gu also supported crisis households this year through ▲Seoul-type Emergency Welfare (a total of 902 households, 748,000,000 KRW) and ▲Special Living Expenses (a total of 610 households, 238,504,000 KRW).

Furthermore, due to the depletion of the December emergency living expenses budget, the district plans to continuously support crisis households by utilizing ▲Warm Winter Fundraising and ▲Dong Case Management projects.

In particular, Mapo-gu is actively identifying crisis households through communication networks such as the ‘365 Citizen Communication Phone’ and ‘Silppuri Welfare Talk,’ and has also expanded the ‘Crisis Household Reporting Reward System’ since this year to do its utmost to eliminate welfare blind spots.
