Next Year's Budget Increases by 3.04% to 609.3 Billion Won
Export Support Share Grows... 14.9 Billion Won Increase
The Korea Creative Content Agency announced on the 17th that next year's budget has been set at 609.3 billion won, a 3.04% increase from this year's 591.3 billion won.
The budget by genre is 98 billion won for broadcasting and video, 63.2 billion won for games, 28.7 billion won for animation, 25 billion won for music, 21 billion won for manhwa and webtoons, 15.5 billion won for new technology convergence, 8.3 billion won for characters, 7.8 billion won for fashion, and 3.6 billion won for story.
The most notable genre is manhwa and webtoons. The budget increased by 8.4 billion won, and new projects such as support for global webtoon intellectual property (IP) production were established. Animation and games also saw increases of 2.6 billion won and 2 billion won respectively, expanding support for planning, production, and distribution.
The budget by function is 104.4 billion won for research and development (R&D), 75.1 billion won for export support, 51 billion won for regional content support, 33.4 billion won for talent development, 21.4 billion won for enterprise fostering, and 4.2 billion won for investment and financing. The proportion of export support grew with an increase of 14.9 billion won. R&D and regional content support also increased by 6 billion won and 5.8 billion won respectively.
To ensure effective execution, the Korea Creative Content Agency will hold a support project briefing session today at the Grand Ballroom Halla in Seoul Dragon City, Yongsan-gu. This aims to help content industry stakeholders clearly understand content policies and actively participate in projects. Additionally, it will present the directions to be focused on and promoted next year.
Yoo Hyun-seok, Acting President of the Korea Creative Content Agency, stated, “A recent survey by the Export-Import Bank of Korea confirmed that the content industry is the only sector showing improvement in export conditions.” He added, “Next year, we will continue to provide comprehensive support so that K-content firmly establishes itself as a growth engine for the Korean economy.”
