On the morning of the 17th, Kang Su-hyun, Mayor of Yangju City, attended the ‘Vietnam War Veterans Hero Uniform Donning Ceremony’ held in the large conference room on the 5th floor of the Yangju City Veterans Hall and expressed deep respect and gratitude for the unwavering dedication of the veterans.

Marking the 60th anniversary of the Vietnam War participation this year, this event was organized to present the honorable uniforms produced by the government as a token of the nation’s respect and gratitude. About 100 people, including Mayor Kang Su-hyun, Gong Hwan, President of the Vietnam War Veterans Association Yangju Branch, members, and Han Yong-seok, President of the Vietnam War Veterans Association Pocheon Branch, participated.

The event proceeded in a somewhat solemn atmosphere, beginning with a moment of silence to pray for the souls of the patriotic martyrs and national heroes, followed by ▲ viewing of Vietnam War-related videos, ▲ uniform donning ceremony, and ▲ singing of the veterans’ unit anthem.

The five heroes who donned the uniforms that day were Song Chang-gyu, Lee Ji-yeon, Lee Deok-man, Jung Chun-soo, and Kim Kwang-ho, with an average age of 84. All of them are veterans who answered the call of their homeland during the Vietnam War and devoted their youth to peace and freedom in the distant land of Vietnam.

During the ‘veterans’ unit anthem’ segment, all attendees, along with the veterans who were proudly smiling in their uniforms, sang together, bringing the event to a successful close.

Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju City said, “Those of you here are proud individuals who greatly contributed to world peace, the promotion of our country’s prestige, and economic development while serving in a distant foreign land during the Vietnam War. Moving forward, Yangju City will continue to uphold the honor of Vietnam War veterans and foster a culture of respect and appreciation for their noble patriotism, ensuring it is recognized as the highest value by future generations.”
